Classic two-panel sumi-e screen painting depicting the temple guardians of the North and South, by Kano Eicho (1827-1899).
Also known by the name Tanaka Sanrai, Kano Eicho is the son of Kano Eigaku, the 9th generation in direct descendancy to Kano Sanraku (1559-1635). The Kano School was the dominant style of painting in Japan from the late 15th c. to the Meiji Period.
