Shimaoka Tatsuzo Tall Vase

Shimaoka Tatsuzo Tall Vase

After studying with the legendary HAMADA Shoji, SHIMAOKA Tatsuzo (1919-2007) built his own kiln right next door, in Mashiko. And like Hamada, he was designated a Living National Treasure in 1996 for his rope-impressed inlays (Mingei Jomon Zogan), an homage to the rope-impressed earthen wares of the Jomon Period (6,000 BC - 300 BC), which helped develop his signature style.

In original wooden box, signed and sealed.

4" x 4" x 9"h
